Chest of Drawers. (1998) It's an ordinary chest of drawers. Or is it? Grandmother gave it to us, it's in the spare bedroom. How long has it been there? Does anyone remember?? We keep linens for the guest bed in there, plus a few other things, leaving the top drawer empty for guests. Wait, has someone been rummaging through these drawers? Looking for what? Hang on, what's that I see...is there something taped to the underside of the bottom drawer? Could it be a mysterious envelope full of cash?? Wait, no. It's nothing. Dir. Nora Ephron, original screenplay by Nora Ephron, Amy Ephron, and Delia Ephron. With Carrie Fisher, Daniel Stern, and Rory Culkin. [preceded by short film The Tea Cozy, featuring animation by students at Learning Without Walls special education summer camp in Winnetka, Illinois]
Milwaukee Transfer. (2001) Dan has to get up at four thirty in the morning five days a week now, because he opens and has to get all the way across town, and if he misses even one bus he's seriously screwed, because then the cleaning crew will be left standing by the door and you know how they are when that happens, Jesus Christ he'll never hear the end of it, not to mention his whole precisely-timed pre-opening routine is messed up. Dan sets his alarm and tries never to use the snooze feature because he knows himself all too well, and he showers the night before. It's a pain, but he's hoping it's a steppingstone to assistant manager. Dir. Mark Rydell, with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Camryn Manheim as "Janice".
