Everyday sensations
  • Auditory: Buzzing, whooshing, faint distant percussive rhythms (as of machinery), footsteps, occasional gurgling/air sucking as from one of those dentist's droolsucking tools, muffled handclaps (as if the hands are enclosed in thick woollen mittens), clicks and whirs like being inside a wristwatch, water rushing through pipes, steam escaping a teakettle, unintelligible murmuring, very faint tinny music like a clock radio left on in the bedroom
  • Visual: Rare glimpses of figures on the stairs (usually descending), shadows on the blinds, scurrying insects in peripheral vision, tiny black dots as if floating in vitreous fluid (both singly and arranged into temporary arrays), starburst patterns, orange flashes, expressionless faces partly visible at edges of window frame at night, intrusive "alt view" flash images of current scene as if from a different angle ("coverage shots")
  • Physical: Sudden slicing internal pain down right side of torso, "skull headaches" (my pet term -- occasional radiating headaches that seem to delineate my entire cranium, I always picture it as neon-bright lines pulsing the outlines of my head), behind the right eye stabbing headaches (always very brief), sudden adrenaline rushes in apparent absence of outside stimuli, prickles of fear on the skin
  • Mental: Sudden seemingly random fears and apprehensions (too many to mention), brief surges of hypochondriacal anxiety, the baseless conviction at odd times that I'm in the house alone and am being observed from outside the house by unknown persons, a feeling that I've forgotten something crucial and that this error will result in my destruction, the sudden image of the house in isometric diagram with a shadowy blob or glowing light indicating my presence in the chair I'm sitting in, the strong need to count certain objects or recite mental lists (with unknown dire consequences if task left undone), and so on.
