Story of the eye

Eyeglasses and I have always had a very uncomfortable relationship. The dislike is mutual. I only had to start wearing glasses in my twenties, and I never really got the hang of it. They give me pounding headaches if worn for several hours. Fit adjustments never result in a way for them to sit on my face with anything like comfort. I'm physically rather fussy, glasses just frustrate me. Also, I want my peripheral vision back, even though I wouldn't be able to see anything with it if I didn't have glasses on. Like anyone else, when confronted with this fact my natural reaction is to get angry at the glasses themselves.

So I got contact lenses, many years ago. I was fortunate to get them around the time they were becoming extremely easy to deal with. Soft disposable lenses have saved me. Unlike many people, I never had any trouble putting them in or getting used to them. I can wear them sixteen hours a day, no problem. Unlike glasses, contacts and I are a match made in optical heaven.

Well, except during allergy season. I would've considered lasik eye surgery, but I never had the means, and now I'm getting close to the presbyopia years, which no one really escapes, so I'd need reading glasses anyway. They make bifocal contact lenses, but apparently they're not exactly a big hit with many people. Who knows.
