I am taking double doses of two kinds of antihistamines, and trying to spend most of my time in my air-filtered bedroom. This is doing a better job of keeping my allergy symptoms down to manageable levels, but it's also, predictably, giving me that druggy feeling. I'm super drowsy from the old school OTC antihistamines, the ones we all took before Claritin. So I drank a lot of coffee over the course of the day, but still fell asleep for a few hours in the afternoon. Since I woke up the second time I've had the fidgets and a sort of nervous low-level foreboding. Not foreboding really, more like a strange conviction that pandemonium is taking place nearby, around the corner. My air cleaner's fan and the sound of freshly filtered air being expelled combine to make a distracting ambient sound, contradiction though that is. As I was reading I kept hearing other sounds within the eerie depths of its white noise. Sirens, distant screaming, phones ringing, footsteps outside my door, the clank and groan of heavy industrial machinery in the distance, screeching tires, whispered conversations (presumably between wraiths or ghouls), mysterious electrical signals, the whoosh of gusty wind through trees, clopping like hoofs on cobblestones, silverware clanging against glass as if someone is quieting the room to make a toast, and so on. You get the idea.
