I think it's important to have some semblance of structure in your life, and to aid in this I like to assign simple themes or mottos to each year. This can be done retroactively, to give some kind of coherence to your memories, or can be done as the year is unfolding. I won't give you the whole list, but here are some highlights from some of my younger years:
- Masturbation is not an Olympic sport.
- If you love me you'll watch me vomit.
- Next year, watch out!
- I'm about to turn a corner, I can totally feel it.
- The first year of my five year plan.
- Holding patterns are sexy.
- The year I reset my five year plan.
- From lemons to lemonade (knock wood).
- I'll see YOU at RamenFest 93!
Now here are some themes from more recent years:
- Please don't take it from me, it's all I have.
- I have my reasons, fuck off.
- The year of not even trying to be nice.
- And now I slurp the phallus of life like a deer at a salt lick!
- Aim low.
- The year that gave new meaning to the phrase "commitment ceremony".
- The slender reed bends but does not break (hopefully).
- Nothing ventured, nothing lost.
Here are some possibilities for much later in life (mere speculation):
- First dewlaps, then despair.
- The cure for laugh lines is to stop laughing.
- Nice turkey wattle, jackass!
- Smothering, the silent killer.
